Antalya is a large city on Turkey’s Mediterranean coast. Set in what’s known as the Turkish Riviera, Antalya is a popular resort destination. Founded in the 2nd century BCE, Antalya and the surrounding areas contain a treasure trove of cultural artifacts. Numerous empires ruled Antalya at various points and the city maintains this rich heritage. While temperatures can rise sharply in the high summer months, Antalya’s climate is typical for Mediterranean cities, mostly dry and pleasant. Antalya is the perfect holiday destination for those who want to combine beach and culture. Hiking is also very popular in the region. There are many interesting sights to visit. One of the most beautiful cultural ones is the Yivli Minare Mosque. This building from the 13th century impresses especially with its minaret and is considered the landmark of the city. The mosque is very centrally located near many restaurants and shops, mainly offering jewelry, leather goods and carpets. You should also not miss the famous Hadrian's Gate that dates back to Roman times and was built in honor of the Roman emperor Hadrian in the year 130. Through the gate you reach the picturesque harbor of Antalya. After a tour of the harbor, many cozy tea houses during the day and numerous bars invite you to refresh yourself in the evening.
Antalya has some of the most beautiful beaches. The Örnekköy beach and the Lara beach are part of it. The same goes for Konyaalti Beach, which is a bit quieter. You can also visit one of the beaches just outside the city like Kargicak Beach, ideal for couples who want to enjoy the beautiful weather in intimate privacy. Cleopatra Beach, on the other hand, is recommended for families with children. There is a lot to discover during your holiday in Antalya!
